Tips for a winning entry
Your entry is evaluated based on the social media posts you create for one or more of the Challenges.
For each Challenge, we’re looking for impact, actions that lots of people can take, and clear and compelling storytelling.
We’re also looking for Canadian household champions that represent diverse households across our vast Canadian geography, and across a variety of sustainable living actions.
Checklist to create a strong post:
- Action – Make it clear which sustainable living actions you’ve taken, and the impact of that action (past, present or planned)
- Reason – Let us know why you’re taking this action
- Challenge theme – Make sure the Challenge theme is obvious (e.g. Our Homes)
- Photo or video – Post a strong photo or video (3 minutes max.)
- About you – Share where you live and a bit about your household: we’re looking for a diversity of households across Canada!
- Story or reflection – Tell a story or reflection with a strong personal voice (use humour & emotion); share your journey and encourage other Canadians to step up and join you!
- Number of posts – Whether you share a single powerful post or a series of smaller ones, quality counts more than quantity.
It’s great if your submission can also:
- Shift the system – Include what helped or what was hard: what’s supporting you or holding you back? Reflect on affordability, access, policies and what’s needed from others (government, business, community, media) to support sustainable living for more people. Show us the big picture.
- Mention or engage others – Whether it’s online, at school, in your community or at the kitchen table – we’re looking for all kinds of influence. You don’t need to go viral.
All your submissions are important! You’re letting us know what actions you take, and where you’re getting stuck and need support. We bring these insights to policymakers, business, communities and the media so they can take action to make living net zero easier over time for everyone.
