How to Enter

Live Net Zero Email Service

Entering is easy.

Take as little as 15 minutes to tell us about your household’s sustainable living journey – past, present and/or future actions – using our simple online entry form.

Each valid entry requires:

  • 100–500 words about your household’s actions, experiences and plans
  • 1–5 photos, or a video of up to three minutes
  • A little information about you and your household (up to 100 words)

Read our Tips for a winning entry, below, to learn how to make your entry stand out.

Enter multiple times!

  • You can submit up to three different entries via our form over the contest period (September 15, 2026 – February 28, 2027).
  • Think of your entries as chapters in your journey, not three versions of the same story: come back to tell us how it went, share another action, or describe the next steps you’re considering.
  • Entering 2–3 times makes you eligible for the $1,000 Live Net Zero Journey Prize and the $500 Multi-Entry Random Prize Draw (see Prizes).

Entered last year? Welcome back! Tell us what’s changed, what you’ve tried since then or what you’re taking on next.

Every valid entry has a chance to win big prizes.

Keep your eyes on our socials as we’ll be sharing entries from households along the way!

Tips for a winning entry

Quality counts more than quantity. You can tell a broad story about changes across different parts of your life, focus more deeply on a few things that matter to your household, or come back over time to show us how your journey is developing.

One strong entry can win the Grand Prize. But entering 2–3 times gives you the opportunity to show more of your household’s journey (and makes you eligible for additional prizes).

We’re looking for meaningful action and impact, along with clear and compelling storytelling. We also want to showcase different households, places and ways of taking action from across Canada.

Each entry requires the following:

  • Description of your actions (100-500 words) – Give a clear picture of the changes you’re making or planning. These might span your home, transport, food, what you buy and use, how you celebrate and play, or other parts of your life.
  • Photo or video – Use the required 1–5 photos or short video (up to three minutes) to really bring your story to life.
  • About you (up to 100 words) – Tell us a little about your household. We want to showcase different households, places and experiences from across Canada.

For a strong entry, include:

  • Impact – Tell us about the difference your actions are making or could make. What’s changed, or what do you hope will change?
  • Your reasons – Why are you making these changes? What motivates you? What matters to your household?
  • Your story – Tell it in your own voice. Share your experiences and reflections: what worked, what didn’t, what surprised you and what you learned. Humour and emotion are welcome!
  • Inspire others – What could another Canadian take from your experience? Help others see what might be possible for them.

It’s great if you can also:

  • Show what makes change easier or harder – What’s supporting you or holding you back? Think about affordability, convenience, access, infrastructure, policies, products and services, and what’s needed from governments, businesses or communities to make sustainable living easier for more people.
  • Engage others – Maybe your actions have sparked a conversation online, at work, at school, in your community or around the kitchen table. We’re looking for all kinds of influence. You don’t need to go viral.
