When it comes to oceans, Canada is luckier than most. The country is hemmed in by a total of three oceans (Pacific, Arctic and Atlantic), and we boast the longest coastline in the world.
But as the globe celebrates World Oceans Day it's important to remember that oceans are critical for more than just vacation views: they provide food and perform important climate regulation and oxygen generation functions. They're also in trouble.
From acidification to pollution, many of the world's oceans are suffering. The 2016 theme of World Oceans Day – "healthy oceans, healthy planet" – highlights the important roles oceans play.
