During the Electricity Challenge, our household positively changed our work and study-from-home routine!
Here’s what we did:
- Used fewer devices
- Opt in for laptops over desktops and phones over laptops when possible
- Turn off power or unplug when not in use
- Enable power-saving settings
Here’s why we did it:
- Less device use = Smaller environmental footprint
- Lower utility bills
- Portability: Laptops make it easier to move around the house and generate less heat
Using an electrical parameter display provided us with real-time insights into electricity consumption, fostering awareness and prompting immediate adjustments. It helps identify energy-intensive appliances, enabling targeted efficiency improvements and informed decisions. Understanding usage patterns leads to cost savings through strategies like off-peak task scheduling and selecting energy-efficient appliances. Monitoring habits actively contribute to a lower carbon footprint, supporting environmental conservation. The display encourages behavioural changes, facilitates goal setting and tracking, and serves as an educational tool. With remote monitoring capabilities, users gain flexibility and control, empowering a sustainable approach to energy usage.
