As we were starting to plan out our commuting challenge and looking to involve our communities (see next blog post!), we got a lot of really positive feedback from folks across Windsor – people are really excited about the idea of learning what they can do to improve their impact and their cities.
As part of this outreach, we were also introduced to Dan MacDonald and the team on 800 AM, and got a chance to go on air and discuss with him the Net Zero challenge and what Windsorites can do to engage.
A couple of key takeaways for us were:
- The radio is really an amazing way to get a message out, and nothing to be intimidated by – the hosts are pros and make it really easy.
- That said, its worth taking time to prepare and get your key messages right!
- People are mostly really eager to hear more about what they can do, and there are lots of like-minded folks out there keen to help get the message out.
In terms of engaging communities, its also worth saying that we can all feel like we don’t have enough authority to speak on environmental issues, or that we are annoying people. But people are actually keen to learn more, to help and do what they can, as long as the messaging is positive and we stay humble and with a learning mindset as we together face big challenges. Its a good reminder for us all as we interact with others, whether over the family dinner, the weekend bbq, or the Christmas party.
We’re looking forward to being back on the show! Thanks @Dan!
