Alaska Supervoyage with Canadian Geographic

A sweeping exploration of southeast Alaska. Fredrick Sound, Endicott Arm, Warm Springs Bay, and Pack Creek to see humpback whales, a tidal glacier, and brown bears. Travel south into the Etolin Wilderness Area, Myers Chuck, and Ketchikan. On this special trip with Canadian Geographic Adventures, you will explore the same areas as our regular supervoyage itinerary, but with special extra experiences, benefits from Canadian Geographic Adventures, and a VIP resource person, Joe Williams. 

Special guest resource person Joe Williams is a Tlingit elder and storyteller who has also been a leader in Alaskan tribal governments. Special experiences available to guests on this trip include one-on-one conversations about Tlingit culture and history, the opportunity for up-close examination of spectacular Tlingit regalia, a workshop on Tlingit moccasins, and a very special private welcome dance by local Tlingit dancers on board the ship.

Itinerary
  • Day 1: Board ship. Explore St. Lazaria, an offshore island with thousands of seabirds, by zodiac and watch for sea otters off Kruzof Island and Salisbury Sound
  • Day 2: Hike and wildlife on Kruzof Island, introduction to the rainforest and other ecotypes: lake, bog, west coast beach. Cruise Peril Strait
  • Day 3: Morning rainforest trail to scenic lake. Wildlife viewing (bears, otters) along the way. Cruise the waterfall coast of Baranof Island, bog walk, and natural hot springs
  • Day 4: Cruising Frederick Sound, watching for whales. Visit sea lion haul out, small island anchorage beach walk. Anchorage at Admiralty Island
  • Day 5: Guided brown bear viewing and rainforest walk up salmon creek at Pack Creek on Admiralty Island, with special access for Swell guests
  • Day 6: Cruise spectacular fjord to tidewater glacier, icebergs, wildlife viewing. Zodiac, kayak and/or walk, exploring glacier, icebergs. Beach walk at a glacier’s terminal
  • Day 7: Stephen’s Passage and Frederick Sound whales. Waterfall + rainforest hike. Glacier anchorage.
  • Day 8: Petersburg visit. Scenic Wrangell Narrows cruise, with a view of Alaskan water-based lifestyle. Cruising south.
  • Day 9: South Etolin wilderness exploration by boat and foot. Exploring intertidal life, multiple islets, black bears
  • Day 10: Morning visit to Meyer’s Chuck. Cruise Tongass Narrows to Ketchikan. Land-day tour with Joe Williams, his hometown. Farewell dinner. Overnight in lodge
  • Day 11: Free time to explore Ketchikan

Daisy Gilardini

Daisy Gilardini is a Canadian Geographic Photographer-in-Residence and a conservation photographer who specializes in the polar regions, with a particular emphasis on Antarctic wildlife and North American bears.

She is a member of the International League of Conservation Photographers (ILCP) and the SeaLegacy Collective, a Fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society and the Explorers Club, and a Greenpeace Antarctic Ambassador.

Daisy’s images have been published internationally in leading magazines such as National Geographic, BBC Wildlife, Canadian Geographic, Nature’s Best and Outdoor Photography, among many others.

David McEown

Canadian artist David McEown, Fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society, has used the medium of watercolour for the past 30 years to explore and reflect many of this Earth’s wilderness areas. His paintings from Antarctica to the North Pole are represented in collections worldwide.

David is a graduate of the Ontario College of Art and Design, and is an elected member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour. The Society awarded him its prestigious A. J. Casson Medal in 2005, and again in 2018.

David is a member of the Explorers Club, a world renowned multidisciplinary professional society based in New York.

A sought-after teacher, David has hosted multimedia presentations conducted workshops for various art societies and museums around the world, with a mind to share his reverence for nature and passion for the creative art of painting.
