Canadian Geographic Education’s second Energy IQ tour is off to a great start in British Columbia.
Teacher Mary Land is leading this year’s energy awareness charge, which began today at Valleyview Secondary School in Kamloops, B.C. and will visit five more schools in Kamloops, Chilliwack, Abbotsford, Langley and Surrey, B.C. before the tour’s end. Her goal? To promote energy and geographic literacy in classrooms across the province.
To do this, Ms. Land is armed with an energy fact book that explains where the province gets its energy from and a large magnetic stand-up display that pinpoints the locations of B.C.’s most important energy resources.
Complementary online energy quizzes for elementary, intermediate and secondary students are also available on the Energy IQ website.
The Energy IQ program is the result of Can Geo Education’s work with 9,500 educators across Canada. It provides resources and lesson plans on Canada’s renewable and non-renewable energy sources and includes an online interactive learning centre, an energy mix library and an interactive energy map.
Educators can also request access to a companion giant floor map that allows students to get up close and personal with Canada’s geography.
