The Royal Canadian Geographical Society received a major gift from Charles, Prince of Wales, and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, on May 21. Prince Charles said the gift is to help inspire “young Canadians to learn more about the geography and history of this great country.”

Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced the gift on the last day of the royal tour during a celebration of Manitoba’s Aerospace and Aviation Day at the Canadian Forces Base in Winnipeg.

“We thank the Prince of Wales for recognizing the role that our Society plays in fostering a love and understanding of Canada’s rich cultural and environmental heritage,” said Paul Ruest, the Society’s president.
