Phew! That was close. Just one per cent separated the first- and second-place options in our latest cover vote. (As Canadian Geographic followers know, in advance of each issue’s publication we solicit your feedback to help us choose our cover.)

Despite the close tally, however, the result simply reaffirmed our team’s opinion that the winner, option two (which nabbed 44 per cent of the vote), was the best cover. (Option three garnered just 14 per cent.) Our group, from newsstand advisor Scott Bullock to publisher Gilles Gagnier to art director Javier Frutos, agreed unanimously that the dramatic image of an Arctic ice formation, combined with the slick treatment of cover lines and use of colour, stood out.

The Arctic is one of our audience’s favourite topics according to our readership surveys. This no doubt contributed to the tight race in this cover vote. How can newsstand readers resist this amazing cover?
