In Winnipeg, Todd Longley is known as the Rock ‘n’ Roll Fisherman. Perhaps it’s because of his two large fish tattoos (a catfish on his left bicep and a greenback walleye on his right calf), which he sports proudly. Canadian Geographic managing editor Nick Walker had the privilege of hitting the Red River with Longley, who memorably told the inexperienced Walker: “You are a piece of dough. I will mould you.”
Langley’s enthusiasm for the sport is infectious, and sure enough, he helped Walker haul in (and then release) nine of the river’s massive catfish, many of which weighed in at nearly 16 kilograms. Watch the video above to meet Longley and get a sense of why he loves catfishing so much.
